From as early as I can remember I have been passionate about plants and flowers; the colour, textures, shapes and scents delighting my senses. Even as a young child I would pick and arrange jam jars of foraged leaves and wild flowers, learn the names of them and identify different trees from their leaf and branch shapes. While for a number of years I followed other career paths, my love of floral design was frequently indulged, and my skills developed, by attending the local flower club and learning from other florists, both individually and in workshops. I've spent years arranging in churches and various venues, for many different occasions, before taking it further to become a floral designer for numerous events.
I love arranging in any form, (and am open to any new ideas and also contemporary designs), but my signature style is natural, free flowing, organic and evocative of the English countryside and gardens. My flowers are always out of the ordinary and often in whimsical and romantic designs. I'm frequently found to be using leaves, seeds, berries and flowers foraged from our farm, hedges and tolerant friends’ and family gardens; adding interesting textures and shapes to enhance the beauty of the bought in flowers (some Dutch and some British, from trusted suppliers). I also grow a number of flowers myself.
In 2008 I did my first full wedding involving church and marquee plus bouquets, corsages and buttonholes and the creative buzz from that, along with the great satisfaction of having enhanced my friends’ special day set me on a path to doing more full scale events. My enthusiasm, careful selection of colour shades, attention to detail, use of beautiful and harmonious, well-conditioned materials combined with a desire to really capture the vibe and look that you are seeking, creates the impact that will give you treasured memories of your special event.
I have years of experience and get deep satisfaction from my floral work and collaborating with people, getting to really understand their requirements, to create beautiful, personal, event flowers. I realise how expensive weddings can be and I do not demand a high minimum spend, so I am happy to cater for smaller flower requirements as well as larger ones. Whilst I cannot create total miracles on a smaller budget, especially if you require expensive, out of season florals in abundance, I'm good at advising on how to make your budget go further! Equally if you have a larger budget and wish to have a more immersive floral experience, I have some fabulous enthusiastic, creative freelancers I can expand the team with, and I will always make sure you have good value for money.
Whether you have a strong clear idea of your floral dream or just a general feeling for what you might want, I will work with you, gathering your thoughts and ideas and offering concepts; from your first consultation and creation of the first mood board, to the final realisation of your vision. Every event is bespoke and unique for you. I don't work from repetitive standard flower 'recipes'. I want every event to truly reflect you.
I also enjoy helping other people experience some of the creative satisfaction I feel from floral design, so if you and your friends and family wish to be involved and maybe would like to create with some flowers yourself (eg straightforward table arrangements), but need a bit of advice or input, then I am more than happy to either advise, work with you or organise a most enjoyable, fun and memorable working party before the event.
As well as weddings I cater for all types of other occasions such as funerals, birthdays and anniversaries.
